What a Picture...What a Photograph!

Does anybody else remember Tommy Steele in Half a Sixpence....or am I just the oldest?  Anyway, that phrase from the song in the musical of the same name, came to mind at crack of sparrow when my lovely other half woke me up to see the most stunning sunrise!  It was worth it!!

Moving on....sad I know, but I don't feel I've had a winter until I've seen a proper bit of snow. Here in Thame we've had the odd flurry...not a lot.  I appreciate that elsewhere you've probably had too much and are heartily sick of it.
Illona has posted some lovely pics of hers in the Netherlands.

This is my offering - pretty though. Poor old owl is beginning to look quite vintage, although he isn't, as his paint gives way to rust. I like it!

In my very frozen garden the helibores are slow to come into flower, but I do love them and I'm indebted to the lovely blogger who, a couple of years ago told me how to ensure they lasted in water.  I'm so sorry that I've forgotten who that was, but I thank you once again.  So, pick the flowers and split the stems longways from just below the first bud. They last for ages.  Before that wonderful tip I'd snipped off individual flowers and floated them on a shallow dish of water - and they do look lovely.  I had to stop that as my daft cat assumed I'd decorated a water bowl just for him and drank the water!

If you read Celia's story of the miniaturists Ralph and Bertha Wright Part One you'll be happy to know that Part Two is up on her blog now, and it's just as fascinating.

Stay safe, and thank you for looking.

Wow! What a gorgeous sunrise! Thanks for sharing!
Your garden looks very snowy to me. I'd give a lot for even this sight of snow. The last few days were so warm here that people wore their summer clothes during the daytime. Nights were cold.
Thanks again for the Bertha and Ralph link. I enjoyed the first part and I'll want to read the second.
Hugs, Drora

This sunrise is stunning indeed, Robin, glad your husband woke you up and thank you for taking this gorgeous picture!
You also love a bit of snowfall in winter..? Me too, but be careful for what you wish for, is my modest opninon. Because now after years of no snow at all we got loads last weekend ;O).
Thank you for sharing the link to my blog, enjoy the pictures. Outdoors here it's ice cold minus 14oC at nights and during the day when the sun is shining minus 5oC. Since I am born in winter and I absolutely LOVE this sort of weather, I waited for this ice and snow for years. So I now fully enjoy every minute (and yes, safely from a distance, or from inside my car), because after the weekend the thaw will come.....unfortunately. The landscape is magical outdoors, it looks like a fairytale.
I also love much ice skating but (if I was not in selfisolation) I also wouldn't dare to go now: it's way too crowdy on the ice rinks, frozen lakes, or flooded and frozen meadows here in my region. But seeing (from behind the windows) the kids playing in the huge piles of snow in front of my house is so lovely, I am glad they have so much fun in this miserable times.
I always love seeing pictures of your garden, Robin, even now with this bit of snow it's atmospherical to see, including the owl.
Your helibores look beautiful, they remind me of mine who have left my garden after so many years caused by the severe droughts we had three years on row.
Thank you for sharing the link for Celia's blog for part two of Bertha and Ralph story, I'll go and read. Since I can't subscribe and follow (Blogger don't let me) I didn't know she published the second part.
Stay safe and take care for each other, dear Robin.
Have a lovely weekend.
Warm hugs, Ilona

I now see that the page with the story of Bertha and Ralph on Celia's blog "not exists", I hope she will publish it again. Hug, Ilona

I'm glad you're enjoying the ice and snow Illona - your pictures are indeed magical.
I've taken a look and Celia's blog is up there - maybe it disappeared for just a little while - take another look.
Take care

Thanks for this additional plug Robin about my Bertha & Ralph Wright article, it was such a pleasure to write. But it was only possible due to the generosity of Ralph & Bertha's grandsons and their respective families, who gave much information so freely, including many photos. Thanks to llona who I can see persevered and managed to get onto my blog in the end. Celia X
