It's been a while ....real life and some painful problems with my knees and things just got in the way, as they do, but your super blogs have been a delight. Thank you.
Last year our gardens here in U.K. and many other parts of Europe got scorched to bits - and now we're being battered by heavy rain. Despite this, Mother Nature will reign supreme in the end so perhaps we should take a leaf (sorry for the pun) from her book and go with the flow..... it will be alright in the end.
Our wild patch is full of moon daisies, pink corncockle, yellow rattle and red campion - but it's pouring with rain so I can't take a pic. today. However a few weeks ago our half-price red hawthorn was a total triumph and the tamarisk looked amazing against the blue sky.
In our vegetable garden the onions are swelling and carrots and leeks growing and the carnations, which are allowed a home there, will look great alongside the onions. Soft fruit is flowering or setting and there should be lovely strawberries to eat when Wimbledon starts.
Although I wasn't able to get to KDF I managed to totter around our local car boot sale with my long-suffering friend and picked up these enchanting little ladies. They're only about two inches high - one is missing and arm and the other a finger or three - but I loved them and they only cost £1. They look to me to be Edwardian, but I'm no expert, and I wonder if they were meant for a Christening or Wedding cake. They are marked but it's indistinct.
Finally take a look where Sammy has taken up residence to keep an eye on what we are up to - top of the cooker amongst the enamel collection.
Thank you for looking
Robin

Hi Robin, I'm sorry to read that your knees were so painful, I hope you'll be on the mend soon..? I do understand that lots of things kept you away from blogging, but I'm glad to read that you enjoyed reading our blogs :).
You're right when you say that last year our gardens (in a big part of Europe) had to suffer so much. Here, at least in my region, the drought is still quite present. We're not allowed to water our garden and also the farmers can't water their fields, it's not good, because summer has to start yet. In the rest of The Netherlands almost every region has had his share of heavy rains, just as the UK now. You're right: what a mystery Mother Nature is sometimes.
I love seeing pictures of your garden, because your garden must be a feast for the eyes. I hope the strawberries won't suffer too much from all the rain and that you can eat them when Wimbledon watching ;).
Your little enchanting ladies are a great find, they've found you and a good home. Sammy is watching them on his high throne ;O!!
Take care of yourself. Warm hugs, Ilona
Hello Robin!
Your photos of your garden are lovely and the news about your summer fruits and vegetables sound promising! I hope that the sunny weather cooperates long enough to sweeten everything up for you. This year,I am growing tomatoes cucumbers and acorn squash in my garden for the very first time and have managed to harvest a few of the tomatoes already which is a new experience for me, yet one that I'm quite enjoying!
I know that gardening with sore knees can be a real problem so I am happy to learn that yours are feeling better.
It is too bad that you weren't able to get to KDF this year but I happen to think that car boot sales can be just as much fun, and often more rewarding and finding your two little ladies for a Pound was a FIND indeed!
and may I ask, how did you cat manage to get up there? Obviously there's no problem with Sammy's knees ;D

My knees are much improved and I've been able to get back into the garden for a bit of weeding. Yes!! A bit of sun and a bit of rain and even the strawberries are doing well and taste lovely. I hope you'll soon get a little rain too Illona.
Sammy does a giant leap to the work surface and then another to the shelf over the cooker.....somewhat nerve-wracking to watch.
Thank you all for your kind comments.
